Being a member of a society, for any kind of positive change we conventionally look for-
☆ What duties and activities the government will perform;
☆ What contributions the rich will make;
☆ What others will do etc since the very advention of the society.It’s become a chronologically practiced perspective.
But we barely give a thought about taking some voluntary self initiatives.
Out of this self-awareness, Sunny Society, as a voluntary organization constitued by a group of students of university of Dhaka, with the aim of positive changes and constructive development of the society
At the very beginning we conducted a research to selecte our targeted people also to know them and what they want from the society and how much we can do for them
As most of our team members are students with the privilege of education ,everyone had an unanimous desire to work for those who are deprived of such opportunities .
So we started our journey with a message to other students ,” we enjoy the privilege of education so we will work for them who don’t .”
That’s why the project we started at the beginning was “school bag, a school in a bag”.
We all know that the children of the slums generally can’t afford to go to schools, so we thought to bring the school to them.
So everyday a team of 5/7 of us used to go to the kamrangirchar slum with the school in our bags.
The eagerness and intellect we got from them were unequal. Only in 6 months of the pilot project, we taught them to read newspapers and write letters.
Every evening when we would return after teaching them the children used to give us letters written by their little hands covered in red/blue envelop, that would say -“dear sister or brother or sir … How are you…. it’s our story”
